A token board shows a reward a child is working for and a row of tokens; the child earns a token for each task or step and gets the reward when the row is full.
How to use it
- 1Pick how many tokens: 3 for short tasks or younger kids, 5 or 10 for longer ones.
- 2Choose the reward your child is working for, like Bubbles.
- 3Pick the token: stars, or a photo your child loves.
- 4Print it with Velcro dot guides and a token sheet, or open it on a tablet.
- 5Give a token right after each success, and give the reward as soon as the row is full.
Questions
What is a token board?
A token board is a visual way to show progress toward a reward. Each token stands for a finished task or step, and the full row shows that the reward is coming.
How many tokens should a token board have?
Start small. Three tokens suit younger children and new tasks; move to five or ten once your child understands how the board works.
What can I use as tokens?
Stars are the classic choice, but anything your child likes can work, including a photo of a favorite toy or of your child. Avoid licensed characters if you plan to share printouts.
Should I take tokens away?
Many families and teachers keep earned tokens earned, so the board stays a positive tool. If you work with a BCBA or therapist, follow the plan you've agreed with them.
