A potty chart is a sticker chart for toilet training: each time your child sits on the potty or uses it, they add a sticker for that day, working toward a small reward.
How to use it
- 1Start with one goal your child can reach often, like sitting on the potty.
- 2Add a harder goal, like a wee in the potty, once the first one is easy.
- 3Pick a reward that comes quickly, and keep the stickers in the bathroom.
- 4Print it and put it where your child can see it right after the potty.
- 5Add the sticker straight away and say what they did: “You sat on the potty.”
Questions
What should a potty chart reward?
Start by rewarding trying (sitting on the potty), not just success. When sitting is easy, move the goal to a wee or poo in the potty.
What if my child has an accident?
Clean up calmly and leave the chart as it is. Accidents are part of learning, and a chart works best when it only ever adds stickers.
How long should we use a potty chart?
Until using the potty feels routine, often a few weeks. Then make the goals harder, space out the rewards, or retire the chart.
Can I use it with the potty visual schedule?
Yes, they work well together: the schedule shows the steps, the chart celebrates doing them. Both are in the potty training kit.
