Using the potty1 / 8

When I need a wee or a poo, I go to the potty.

My body tells me when it is time.

    I sit on the potty.

I can sit and wait. It is okay if it takes a little while.

  4. Page 4

The wee or poo goes in the potty.

    That is where it goes.

  5. Page 5

    I wipe with toilet paper.

Then the paper goes in the toilet.

  6. Page 6

I pull my pants up and flush.

The flush can be loud. I can cover my ears if I want to.

  7. Page 7

I wash my hands with soap and water.

Then I dry them on the towel.

  8. Page 8

    I used the potty!

Sometimes accidents happen. That is okay. Next time I can try again.

When to use this story

Read it daily while your child is learning to use the potty, at a calm time such as after breakfast. It describes each step in order, so the routine becomes familiar before it's needed.

Tips

  1. 1Use your family's words: change potty to toilet, or wee to pee, so the story matches what your child hears.
  2. 2Add a photo of your own bathroom and your child's potty on the first page.
  3. 3Pair it with the potty visual schedule by the toilet, so the story and the steps match.
