The dentist helps keep my teeth healthy.

The story

Sometimes I go to the dentist.

The dentist helps keep my teeth healthy.

  2. Page 2

First I wait in the waiting room.

I can read a book while I wait.

  3. Page 3

I sit in a big chair that moves.

It goes up and down slowly. That is okay.

  4. Page 4

    The dentist counts my teeth.

I can count with the dentist.

  5. Page 5

If I need a break, I can raise my hand.

The dentist will stop and wait.

  6. Page 6

    Then I am all done!

I can pick a sticker on the way out.

When to use this story

Read it a few days before a dentist visit, and again on the day. It helps your child know what will happen, in the order it happens, so the visit feels less new.

Tips

  1. 1Swap in photos of your own dentist's office and waiting room if you can; real places are easier to recognize.
  2. 2Read it calmly when nothing is happening, not just right before you leave.
  3. 3Tell the dental team what helps your child, like breaks or sunglasses for the bright light.
